CARDING: 

 

Carding is the process to convert the small tufts into individual fibers. Carding is usually referred to as the “heart of spinning” because if in this process the fibers lie parallel to each other & cleaning takes place properly then the yarn produced is of good quality. 

Objectives of carding: 

 

  • Opening & cleaning
  • Mixing & blending
  • Nep disentanglement
  • Removal of short fibers from longer one’s
  • Orientation & parallelization
  • Fiber regularization
  • Sliver formation  

 

Working between rollers 

 

Feed roller & taker-in: 

 

The feed roller feed the fibers to the taker-in. both the rollers have the same motion (anti clock wise). The taker in is kept a certain distance to allow only few fibers to pass through & this is done by air pressure. During this process the heavier trash particles are removed. 

Taker-in & cylinder: 

 

The cylinder then takes the layer of fibers. The motion of the cylinder is clockwise & it moves with a very high speed. 

Cylinder & flat:

 

This is the place where main carding action takes place. The flat rotates in the same direction as that of cylinder. They have curved wires. When the speed of the cylinder is so fast, flats comb through the fibers on the cylinder removing small fibers & neps. The distance between the cylinder & flats is called gauge distance & is kept different for different fibers,

Cylinder & doffer: 

 

The doffer has inclined wires just like cylinder. It just picks up the web from the cylinder by rotating anti clockwise. A cleaning brush is mounted on the doffer to clean it whenever unnecessary material sticks to the doffer. The doffer then simply transfer the web of the cylinder.

Trash at card: 

 

The trashes that are present at the card are neps, dust & foreign impurities. These wastes are collected in a separate waste collector after they pass through grid bars through air suction. 

Removal of neps: 

 

Neps are removed through the interaction of the curved wires of the cylinder & the flats. Nep are usually formed when the fiber tufts are not open completely & sometimes even in the machine at the feed roller.

Transfer of sliver into cans: 

 

The sliver is transferred to the coiler box through sliver pulleys. The coiling mechanism consists of two concentric circular coilers of different diameters rotating at different speeds to form sliver layers in circular pattern in the delivery can. Two different circular patterns are produced, one the smaller coiler & the other the outer circular layer. 

Mechanism of high speed flat card:

 

In the high speed flat card there are number of sensory systems that detects any problem in the machine. The machine has computerized control panel that informs us about the production & tells us about the efficiency of the machine. There are number of sensors placed in the card which tells us about the problem & when the problem occurs the machine stops automatically, when we solve the problem we starts the machine with the help of available buttons & the production starts again. The production rate of high-speed flat card is approximately 100 kg/hr
