A Group of Friends who celebrate Rod McKuen's Words and Music
The following poem brings back so many bittersweet memories for me. Elizabeth Bay Evening October 9 I called Belinda. She was out. I left no message. David stopped by, later Jill. We washed down Oysters Town House with more Oysters Town House. Room service done, I feigned a yawn. They left and I was left with sleep, company about to come. Mel rang up his voice full up with Aussie urgency, "Why don't I come out and play?" True. School is out...[More]
When I was working I was employed as an IT Manager. My career involved planning and implementing new computer systems, managing IT personnel, and designing software. This type of work was stressful and always working under time constraints. The most difficult part was getting individuals do things according to a designed plan rather than exercising their own thoughts about how the system should work. I learned early on that in order to keep fresh one needs to draw away at times and...[More]
Dear Rita, No problem with the name confusion. Jill and I have been friends since April, 1973 and it is an honor to be thought of as Jill. She is an intelligent, achieving woman and the best friend a person could ever have in your life. Although great distances separate us, I plan to journey to see Jill when I retire. At the rate the economy is going, it may take me a while to save enough to get there, but it is one of the items on my bucket list! We have the unique capability to be close yet p...[More]
Reply to svcmistress (07/28/2010 10:49 PM) Jill, Thank you so much for keeping this board interesting. I don't have Sirius Radio or thought I didn't and just realized that I do on my dish TV so I'll have to see if can get Rod's program. The trouble is there are so many Sirius stations I don't know how to find the right one. Reading Rod's books now is almost a totally different experience than it was back when they were written. Each reading brings new revelations and understanding. I d...[More]
Gees, I was so excited this morning about learning that I had Sirius Radio that I got my names Confused. For some reason I connect Jill and Robyn and I so enjoy both of them. But I do know the difference and I knew it was Robyn who has been doing all the great posting about events with Rod. I guess I am just so amazed that two women who knew Rod way back when still keep up and take the time to post here. But I'm sorry I confused your names. And it would be triply wonderful to get to meet Co...[More]
Hi, Rita! That post was from Robyn. The system won't let me log on again and I don't know what to do about it. UGH! I am a guest yet again.... Have a great evening. Flying 99 Peace, Robyn Zadrozny Fly,Robyn,Fly!
Dear Rita: Life is so strange. You go somewhere and a person is connected to your life story some how. This happened to me when I went to The University of Hawaii. I went to the airport to book an inter-island tour and the man who waited on me at the counter was my cousin's best man and his wife was the matron of honor. We never met before, but my last name sparked a discussion and an invitation to their house for dinner that week-end. So, why couldn't we meet one day? It could happen - maybe at...[More]
Rita, I think it is highly possible that we all could meet someday...after all I finally got to meet Rod after all these many years, along with some of the board members from the West and East coast and in between. I look forward to meeting more in the future. Robyn, I too would love to have the program on CD. There is a Rod McKuen link on Facebook now that has info on the upcoming events, and when I signed in to attend, there was a reminder about it on the day of the show. I am always lear...[More]
