If you found a briefcase of money on the street, would you keep it?

If it was in a briefcase, it probably belonged to someone who had money and probably the money would be from ill gotten gains. The "bad" me would keep it because I sure don't have briefcases full of money. The "good" me would count the money and turn it over to the police. I think they have a method of keeping things for 30 days and if nobody claims it, it's returned to the finder (she says hopefully). If it was returned to me, I would pay off my bills, divide the balance into three, give 1/3 to the Humane Society, 1/3 to the church and keep 1/3. Unless it was full of one dollar bills, then it wouldn't even cover my debt.

I guess the exception would be if the briefcase had identification inside. Then I would contact the owner.

Good answer Sharon I would be the same

As much as I would love to keep it my conscience would drive me nad, so I would hand it into the police and hope my favourite saying comes true

What goes around comes around

I would hand it into the police and let them sort out with owner if it is ill gotten gains or genuinely earned monies, if it isn't collected then it will come back to me.

I agree with all of you. My conscience would drive me crazy if I didn't hand it over to the police. It happened to Phil and I once when I found a bank envelope filled with $500 on my mother's lawn. We brought it to the police and some time later but eventually it was given to us because no one picked it up. $500 back in 1972 that was a lot of money. We gave it to my mother since it was found on her property and I knew she could use it. My mom gave it back to us. She said we should put it in the bank and save it. That's what we did. It must of happened right after we were engaged.
