The Celebration Of World Tourism Day 2011

The United Nations has set aside 27th September each year to celebrate World Tourism Day as a way of fostering awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural and economic values.
The event seeks to address the global challenges outlined in the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and to highlight the contribution the tourism sector can make towards reaching these goals.
The event was created at the 3rd Session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Torremolinos, Spain, in September 1979. 27th September is noteworthy because it was on that day in 1970 that the statutes of the World Tourism Organisation were espoused. At its 12th Session in Istanbul, Turkey, in October 1997, the UNWTO passed a resolution to designate a host member-state each year as an associate to commemorate World Tourism Day. Ghana had the first privilege to host the worldwide event in 2009; same way Egypt is hosting it this year.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Tourism: Linking Cultures” and it is an opportunity to highlight tourism’s role in bringing the cultures of the World together and promoting understanding and mutual respect through global travel.
Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary General, in his World Tourism Day 2011 message remarked thus “there is no better way to learn about a new culture than to experience it first-hand. Tourism offers a wonderful connecting thread between visitor and host community. It promotes dialogue and interaction. Such contact between people of different backgrounds is the foundation for tolerance. In a world struggling for peaceful co-existence, tourism can build bridges and contribute to peace”.

ALMERIA City Hall Tourism Department has decided to celebrate World Tourism Day, next Tuesday (27th September), by allowing free entrance to the city’s main tourist attractions.

There will also be guided tours of the historical centre, the Refugios de Langle, the Cinema Museum and the Tourist Train.

Up to 50 people can joined the tour of Moorish Andalucia which begins at 10.30am, the second, called ‘The Triumph of Christianity’ will be held at 5.30pm for the same amount of people.

Two groups of 30 people can visit the Civil War Refuges from 10.30am to 12.30pm, which two groups of 24 can visit theCinema Museum, and the tourist train will run four free trips for groups of up to 50 people.

Meanwhile, the Levante Almeriense Association of Municipalities continues to carry out projects to boost the local economy and employment in the tourist sector.

To do so, the association plans to carry out courses for immigrants and projects to promote energy development in small and medium tourism businesses, as well as helping to develop self-employment.

One of the ideas which have been suggested is to create a ‘Tourism Products Club’ which could offer benefits to clients and businesses, while respecting the environment.

I have been to New Zealand. It is beautiful. We hired a motor home and toured both islands, a few years ago now.  Loved it.

Although I have never gone New Zealand, I learnt about it on TV.
When I first saw the sightseeing of New Zealand, I lost myself in it.
The fist time is when the movie " The Lord Of The Rings" came out. The director Peter Jackson chose New Zealand to make the film. Then Travelling to New Zealand began to be popular in my country.

If he were sold, money is not useful for him at that time.
He is so desired to be sold. I just want to help him .
Don't worry. He will enjoy a discount.

I think this has been a nice thread, with lovely photographs.

However, this forum and it's events should be advertised just like any other forum at Aimoo. I would appreciate it if there were no more announcements (yellow stripes) at the top of my forum.

Thank you.
