RE:SIlent Scream: The Dancer
(Date Posted:04/25/2011 11:38)
This is an odd little game thus far. The graphics are interesting. I'd call them a graphic novel style, rather than the usual fare we're used to in HOGs. I kind of like them for a change of pace. No problems with that.
I am finding the game play a little "clunky" for lack of a better word. I have to click on some things a few times in orer for it to respond. I'm also dealing with a pet peeve of mine with this game. If I KNOW I'm going to need whatever inventory tool it is, let me just pick it up when I see it for pity's sake! I've clicked the same drawer handle about six times, but couldn't pick it up until I needed it for the next step in the game. That sort of thing is frustrating.
On a side note, how funny would it be to have a game let you pick up and carry around stuff you think you need, but don't? See a crowbar, pick it up out of habit... then never need it? Okay, perhaps only *I* would find that amusing, but I would laugh and laugh!
I'm also having to suspend reality a little bit, which is okay by me, but I know some folks don't like it. For example, I am thinking that anyone who gets conked on the noggin with a lead pipe is going to need medical attention rather than just an aspirin.
I'm only at the beginning of stage three, so I'm going to reserve judgement for a while. Just wanted to share what I've experienced so far for those who may be considering purchasing this game.

I'm rather quite annoyed the developers kept this in despite the testers telling them we didn't like it! Anybody who played the beta (and whole game) found any improvements?

Let's just say that, without giving away any spoilers, when I'm right, I'm right. LOL PR, since you did the beta, I'm assuming you know what I'm talking about.
And I also knew I'd need that stupid hammer in the attic!
I also think there's a glitch in the "bonus" area. I was able to open the stage panel without the rock and now I can't get the key to work.
Although I applaud this game for being different, I can't say I loved it. I'll be interested to see what others think about this one.

I beta'd this game and played the whole 'beta' game. I only played 30 min of demo of released game.
I did not notice any changes in basic game play from the beta. One puzzle was much easier than in the beta.
SPOILER! HL to read:
The day care roster puzzle was much easier. In the beta this was very difficult to do because I kept waking the snoring woman up and had to start over moving things. Do you remember that, Purple? In this release it seemed that all you had to do was move things around and there was no fear of waking her up.
How was the puzzle to sweep up the glass into the dustpan? In beta this was pretty much impossible for me, I kept making too much noise and had to start over. Did they make this easier? I won't get that far in the demo.
The improvements overall that I saw were in the intro video etc. That was improved. I imagine the game play with finding and using things was something they were unable to change because the game was pretty much finished. That kind of change would probably take some major reprogramming. The beta I participated in was not quite a month ago.

I gave up on the broom game. I was frustrated and impatient, so I ended up skipping it.
Sorry!

mcurty, I hated those puzzles in the beta! And the same one in the toilet. I had to skip the one back-stage too, I think that's the worst puzzle I've ever seen in a game.

Sorry! Don't need to be sorry. I had to do this in Beta also. I could not accomplish what they wanted and told them so in Beta comments submitted. I can't believe that they left it that difficult in the release.

I was hoping that the developers would listen to the testers and change the problem with the picking up of items only when needed. I spent most of my time in the beta clicking on things which I know I would need later but the game wouldn't let me. I do think that this has to be one of the worse systems I have come across. It just frustrated me and I wasn't enjoying the game because I just wanted to pick up the items. If the change had happened, I would quite happily buy it, but no, so it's a no from me. Maybe as a DD I might buy it, but it would depend on how many other games I had to play and if there wasn't a lot of other good games around for me to buy.

I demoed this game and hoped I could get along with the cumbersome mechanics of the gameplay because I thought it was rather novel in approach and cute, different and Parisian.
But, alas...my OCD got the better of me. I did, however, put it on my list of games to try again at a time when calmness once again enters my life.

I managed thirty minutes of the demo before I'd had enough. Like some of you... the mechanics of the game was frustrating and annoying. Not sure I'd even purchase as a DD one day it bugged me that much.

i told the devs that the one thing keeping me from buying is not being able to pick up items you know you need, i got the full game free for testing,, and didnt even finish it.....too frustrating..
