Steam (www.steampowered.com) is having a big sale through the Fourth of July.  I saw the Witcher I missed out on at Gamers' Gate and Ceville for $6.79.  Cordia, was it you who wanted the Crazy Machine Games? They also had a Puzzle Kingdom for $1.00 and Puzzle Chronicles for $4.99 (like Puzzle Quest).  Genki, they had Roller Coaster Tycoon Premium 3 for $10.19 which you might like.  Plus hundreds more.

P.S. I forgot if you haven't picked up The Whispered World it is on sale for $14.99.

Ohhh, I so want the Whispered World! *_* And I hear that Ceville is great!  I bought Roller Coaster Tycoon years ago and have never once played - just bought it to grab some graphics to use in Zoo Tycoon :P haha

EDIT:  Here's a link right to the adventure games on sale:

http://store.steampowered.com/genre/Adventure

I may not be able to buy, but I can still look! :D

That's a great price for Ceville, which I want. Wow! I went hog wild at Steam's Christmas sale, so I guess I will do for the 4th one, too, LOL.

They are pretty busy as I tried to download The Witcher and their servers are too busy to download it right now.  I'll try again tomorrow.  I also want to try the demo of Ceville to see what that is like.

I have Ceville and can recommend it-   it is hilarious .

If you have an older graphics card you might want to check out the specs-  the game for the most part works for me though some scenes the graphics stretch and get spikey.

I  have an ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512mb which is quite an old card.

It plays fine on my laptop that has a Nvidea 8600 chip.

I just looked at the sale and said goodbye to my money! They've got Darkfall 3 and Ankh 3 rather cheap. Might be spending a while browsing that this weekend!

Ooo, PR, are the Ankh games good?  They look like fun!

A newish member at Big Fish and I have been talking, and I'm told that Aquaria is a fantastic game.  Steam has it on sale for 50% off, so it's $4.99 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/24420/

From the screenshots, it looks like something I'd love!  Has anyone played it?

EDIT:  Also, is Steam a DRM-free site with direct .exe downloading like GOG, or is there a game manager to deal with?

EDIT #2:  Has anyone heard of The Void?  It says it's Action/Adventure, but it looks like Psychological/Adventure - not a shoot-em up type of game.

Steam does have a game manager, but it is different. Your games "reside" in the manager, and you can play them from anywhere. You can also import games from other places into your Steam manager. I haven't done this, but it seems like it would be convenient.

Legacy has all three Ankh games in a bundle for $24.99 if you don't have any of them. They had a sale on the bundle a while back, it was $19.99, which was good, but I was a little short of cash at the time.

RE:Sale at Steam

I made an account at Steam and purchased a $2 game to make sure I have no problems with the Steam GM.
I had to do a bit of reading as I did not get at first where my games were being installed to- but seems it installs them to a Steamapp folder at the location you install the GM itself.

All is well,  so I am ready to grab that Telltale game pack on July 1  =  Yippeee!!!

Re:Sale at Steam

I got The Whispered World and a couple of $1.25 games (Yes!!! WOW!!!) last night after a PM on BF from govegirl.  One of the games was actually a multi game pack & eta on download was over 3 hours. (sigh) So I went & ate & read (on my iPhone - now I want a Kindle), went to bed & this morning dls were all done. Then a saw the Aquaria post, so I checked that out.  Back to Steam to get that one, too.  I saw the video at the developers site & it looked great.

BTW, I don't use the Steam or GameHouse game managers. I have folders on my desktop & just drag the shortcuts to the games into those folders & play the games direct from there.  Works fine for me.

Genki
Like Phatkhat said Steam does have a game manager but it works very well and you can even import your own games into it.

The Void.   This is a strange beautiful action adventure game that is very different.  You play a lost soul in an alternate universe and you are trying to escape.  A unique feature of this game is you do all the battles with color.  The universe is basically colorless and you have to find the remaining color in order to battle other souls called brothers and sisters.  Facinating game!

The Path looks interesting, too. Very different, and a takeoff on the Little Red Riding Hood tale. Also a psychological game. Steam has a lot of those! I like them.

And for something COMPLETELY different, try Full Pipe. This is the quirkiest game I've ever played! It's an adventure game from a Russian developer. There is no dialog, and the characters interact by way of pictograms. It is very... surreal, but the longer you play, the more sense it makes. There is a demo, so you can try it. I think it's on sale for like a buck or two.

I'm getting burned out on HOGs, even IHOGs - unless they really have a good story and hard puzzles.

To answer the question directed at me, yes, the Ankh games are good adventure games.
Steam only has Ankh 2 and 3, but in a pack for £5.43 (don't know the USD price as I can't see those). That's a real bargain!

RE:Sale at Steam
(Date Posted:06/26/2010 19:51)

From the sale at Steam I picked up three games:  Ceville, The Witcher and Puzzle Kingdoms.  Ceville, so far, I have only played the first scene.  I can tell it will be funny and it starts out linear, which I kind of like.

Puzzle Kingdoms is a little different than Puzzle Quest.  Instead of swapping tiles to match 3, you have to slide a column or row moving a new tile on the board.  The match 3 have to be adjacent, not in the same column or row.  Once you conquer a kingdom, you move to the next kingdom and start anew there.  I liked it, and since it was only $1, well worth the money.

Thanks to all who recommended The Witcher.  I started the game last night and it was like watching a movie.  I picked the Easy mode as I didn't know how I would do with all the fighting.  That hasn't been a problem, yet, but I'm still in the prologue.  I did think I would have to pay $9.95 for a strategy guide (from Direct 2 Drive or Gamespot) until I found where Steam hid the manual.  Not only is there a manual, but a 112 page game guide as well.  That should be a big help.  My navigation skills are not that great and it took me quite a while to find the winch to shut (or open, I can't remember which) the gate.  In this game the path your game follows depends on the choices you make.  I looked in the game guide and there are a total of 123 main and side quests.  Now I'm not sure that you complete all side quests depending on the choices you make, but in 63 minutes of playing I'm still on the first quest.  This probably included the opening movie and tutorials, but still I have many, many hours of gaming ahead of me.

Re:Sale at Steam

I bought Puzzle Kingdoms last night and while it's no Puzzle Quest, it's entertaining enough for a buck. I am playing Puzzle Quest 2 on my DS and I am a bit disappointed. This feels like it was number 1, while the first one should have been the sequel.

I am downloading a demo for The Whispered World and I will buy that from Steam (half price right now!) if I like it. I downloaded the demo for Aquaria earlier and I am not sure about that one yet. This is a whole new world of gaming for me. I used to stick to the iHOG's and M3's but I have felt the itch to branch out lately.

RE:Sale at Steam

Rainbow:  I received my copy of Puzzle Quest 2 last night.  I only played a couple of battles, but my first thought was I liked Puzzle Quest better.  Since I'm just at the beginning, I figure I need to play a little more and see how it goes.  The original had so much to do, and this one doesn't appear to have that depth.  For instance, I didn't see an option to build a Citadel.  My Puzzle Quest is on the PC and PQ2 is on the DS, so it will be nice to have one to play "on the go".

Many of us here are enjoying The Whispered World.  I like the sarcastic humor of it.  I'm stuck at a spot right now, and need to get back to it and figure out what to do.  I'm sure you'll like it.

Once again I prove I need to catalogue my non-BFG purchases! Amongst other games, I put Ankh 3 in my basket. When I went to pay, it tells me I already have it! Thankfully, I got it cheaper in the last sale.

What I did buy was:

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge (on pre-sale)
Indigo Prophecy  (adventure)
Yard Sale (UK)  (same as BFG but cheaper)
Mata Hari  (not the HOG on BFG but an adventure)
Penumbra Collectors Pack (Penumbra: Overture, Penumbra: Black Plague and Penumbra: Requiem)
Runaway, A Road Adventure  (played a long while ago, but the disc corrupted)
Beat Hazard (looks like a fun space shooting game that uses your own music)
Darkfall: Lost Souls (the 3rd one that came out in April)

kac41556:  Where does Steam hide the manuals? I was thinking that some of the games there should come with at least some kind of instruction manual, but I don't know where to look.  Got an FPS there & just searched on the web until I found a site that listed the controls.

I went back to Steam & bought Aquaria and another game last night.

In case someone is new to Steam, their dl system is great.  If I want to use my computer, I just shut it off & then turn it back on when I leave.  DL keeps track of where it's at and keeps going.  Very cool, especially with those large files.

I checked my game files and not all have manuals so you will have to see if your game does.  I have Windows XP and here are the steps:

Click
My Computer
Local Drive C
Program Files
Steam
Steamapps
Common
"Name of Your Game"

When I went in the game file, there were a bunch of files including a manual PDF.  I found this out on a Steam forum.

I don't know why I have never looked into purchasing from Steam before.  For some reason I had it in my head it was like playing games in an online chatroom.

I am very happy and find the game manager quite un-intrusive -  you can see all your games at once there and the shop at same time - no scrolling all over the place.
Very good.

Yes, I purchased a $2 game the other day and about 8 hours ago I purchased the Everything Telltale pack- my transaction went through no problems.
Sorry -  have you checked on the forums there if any assistance?
