I love the emily series, however, I beta's this quite a while ago, and didn't care for it - but I am not fond of the whole medical game playing.
The gameplay was okay, like a cross between emily and lucy's expedition - it was the premise and the story I wasn't fond of.

     well that is disappointing.
I am hoping they did not make this in lieu of an Emily game- but I will probably buy it- has to be a bad TM for me not to like it.

There is also another hospital game coning up, I beta tested for Big Fish called Hospital Haste which is a rip off of Hotel Dash.

well, its been a while - I just checked and I beta'd it in the beginning of May - This was the first one that after gamehouse took over zylom's beta program (that is where I beta'd all the delicious series) usually we get it more than once, but since gamehouse has taken it over, who knows.
You might like it ... it is a personal story thing for me - and who knows what they have done to it since then!

I'm still secretly dreaming of Theme Hospital, but I think I'll give this game a chance - and hope it's at least half as good as the Emily games.

    Re:Heart's Medicine Season 1
    (Date Posted:11/03/2010 08:36)

The game really is fun, but I thought it a bit short - 5 levels per doctor (25 levels total). On the other hand, to get all trophies, you definitely have to replay levels quite a bit (one of the trophies actually is for replaying one level 6 times). (Yes, this means I finished, but on 'easy' and not with all levels on expert score and surely not with all trophies, so I'll be replaying quite a bit.)

The story starts out about six years before the game proper starts - I liked that, including the emergeny treatment after the accident. Just like the Delicious series, this one includes one additional task per level (ranging, just like in the Delicious games, from searching objects to repairing or even personality tests). Instead of the mouse, you have a nice, little guinea pig in this game. The cute, little guy turns up in every level and you can catch it for additional hearts. Hearts, because in this game you're not earning money, you're earning hearts (6 maximum per person, but combos bring additional hearts, up to two per person). There's, just as in the Delicious games, the goal and the expert goal (which usually is 10 to 20 hearts above goal). With the hearts earned, you buy upgrades for the room which not only help you gain more hearts in the next levels (the upgrades stay, even if you replay a level later on), but also help you towards some trophies (completely upgrading all five rooms means one more trophy and you need to upgrade half of them as part of another one). The trophy room in this game is Allison's office. You get a fish for every part of the game you finish, you get pictures to remind you of some twists in the game (story twists that really make the whole thing more interesting). In addition you can get trophies for many other things (like finishing the mini-games of each level with A+, walking around a lot, receiving presents from patients and so on). This brings me to the mini-games. You play up to two different mini-games in every level, each of them has five levels of its own (when you master one, you get upgraded to the next, when you fail, you have to start at level 1 again). The mini-games aren't all that difficult and loosen up the gameplay a bit. There's also some GameHouse objects hidden in the levels (such as Dr. Haken's hook), which also are part of some trophies. There's a surprise waiting in the end - a very fitting final task to do.

The graphic remind me a lot of Delicious, although the characters are different ones. Each doctor's domain looks completely different (as is to be expected) and has nice details to offer. The patients come in some varieties, but not everyone is different, of course. The frequent cutscenes are well done and add depth to the story - and the characters.

As always, I can't say a thing about sound, as I didn't turn it on during play.

Just as I wrote in the beginning, the game is a bit short (the Delicious Games I have deliver at least six times ten levels to play, if not more, this one offers five times five levels - albeit quite long ones), but replayable (and you will have to replay in order to get all trophies). Still, the gameplay is sound and the story is told very well. Mini-games, the guinea pig, the collectables and the tasks add depth to gameplay (which I have missed a bit yesterday while playing Hotel Dash).

    edited for typos

I am loving Heart's Medicine! I couldn't stop playing until I completed the whole thing! I haven't been playing any games for the past few weeks, but this one I just couldn't resist. The opening scene pulls you in, and then it's Grey's Anatomy all the way, from the romances, to the office politics, to the medical emergencies. Not a boring moment at all!

My only gripe is that it ended too soon, but on the other hand, adding more shifts per doctor/department would just have made it repetitive and monotonous. So perhaps 5 shifts per department was just right.

I'm glad to see that we're given a choice of difficulty right from the start. I chose Normal difficulty, and was able to get all the trophies. The level I chose to repeat 6 times was The Lab - Shift 2, because the bone puzzle is my favorite mini-game, and I didn't mind doing that over and over! I didn't choose Shift 1 because it didn't have a coffee machine, and it had a lengthy emergency procedure for Robert.

I wouldn't dare attempt Expert difficulty on my next playthrough -- that last minigame with the baby's ultrasound was a real killer! I bow to anyone who can get an A+ on that in Expert mode!

    RE:Heart's Medicine Season 1
    (Date Posted:11/03/2010 19:15)

I finally finished! I loved it and here is my assessment:

Heart's Medicine is a wonderful game.   It has the endearing characters and heartfelt storylines we are used to from the makers of the Delicious series.    The graphics were very nice (though it did not play widescreen). There are three levels of difficulty to choose from, I chose easy to start with and had no problem getting expert scores, so I recommend experienced players to start on at least the normal mode.   The game consisted of 25 levels, made up of 5 shifts in 5 different departments of the Hospital.

As well as attending patients, which you allocate to various stations depending on their needs, there are side quests, such as treating an emergency patient, or picking up cookies that spilled from a plate.  Every scene also has "Oliver the guinea pig" to look for and find, and he can be a speedy thing, also Easter Eggs to look for about various GameHouse games.

You treat patients by playing various mini-games, there was only one of those I disliked (removing obstructions from an orifice, you had to move your mouse along a path, and I was not very good at that) the others were quite fun, and they all were relevant to the patients treatment.  After the patient is treated they move to another station or get sent to a checkout desk, where depending on the number of hearts the patient has by then, you are scored.   There are upgrades and powerups to use to help add or maintain the hearts, the aim to get all patients with gold hearts for maximum points.

As the game and story moved along, the attachment to the characters grew and by the end I was sad the game was over and now look forward to Season 2.
