Amanda Rose: The Game of Time

by:  Renergy Entertainment

Available:  Alawar

Amanda Rose is standing at the crumbling entrance to an abandoned mine. When she steps through the opening and into the darkness beyond, she'll discover something incredible. Only a few days ago, she watched her father leave their home to go on a secret mission. A few hours later, she was searching the desert site where his plane had crashed for clues to his disappearance. And not long after that, a strange device threw her back in time. She's helped the citizens of an Old Western town, met a wise Indian chief and made her way to the mine, which serves as the gateway to an amazing secret.

Will you guide Amanda through the breach? Are you brave enough to walk boldly with her into the unknown? There's only one way to find out: Download the free trial version of Amanda Rose: The Game of Time or purchase the full version to experience the complete adventure!

Thanks b00k.  It just let me on now, oh boy.  Just starting the demo now, that also took an hour to download.

I bought this on impulse buy on the weekend when I also puchased My Farm Life.

It is not a bad game.  The graphics are excellent and plays really beautifully on widescreen.

The story is the usual, daughter looking for missing father.  She gets transported to the Wild West (think she found a gem or something) and that is the setting most of the game takes place.

There are 14 chapters.  Each chapter comprises of 1 to 3 screens.  The first task is to find the list of objects pictured at the bottom of the sreen. After you find those, you then get a another list of objects to find which are locked and involve some kind of action to uncover them.  Such as finding a key to unlock a chest or a hammer to break a vase- pretty standard stuff.  There are some puzzles in between and some were quite good, and beautifully presented like the rest of the game.

My only real complaint is the game was quite short.   In hindsight I regret  paying $10 for it but for anyone interested in this game it is worth a pick up for the normal standard game price when available.
Nothing groundbreaking but entertaining enough for a few hours.

I demoed this about a month ago.  I liked the graphics and game play and it's a light-hearted clever game that I think is well-done.  The only reason I decided not to buy was because I was concerned about the game length.  I got through 5 or 6 chapters in the demo and I couldn't tell how long it would be after that.

Will be grateful to know about length.  May purchase anyway because like I said I did enjoy the game.

I used to equate short games at clubmembers price to going to a movie theater.  Seven bucks (BFG clubmember price) for a couple hours of replayable entertainment versus a couple hours watching a movie I don't get to see again unless I pay for it again  in theater or purchase/rent the DVD. But my mindset on this has changed a great deal. If I'm interacting with the characters and immersed in the storyline, I'd like a quality game that lasts well over four hours. Games used to be physical therapy for me years ago after the brain damage and length wasn't a consideration but more and more I play them for pure entertainment. And escape. Escape from a drama filled life that lends me little relief.

So what does this have to do with Amanda Rose?

I enjoyed my time playing the demo and seriously considered purchasing it today. But reading review after review and comments about the game length... even from slower players... I hesitate to invest in a short game. To me it quantifies to the developers that they can release a "short" game, make some money, and not be held responsible for working towards a longer length and storyline. Similar to Cliff Notes. Offer the short version to satisfy the need and then move on. I didn't use Cliff Notes to get through school and read what was required word for word. And yes it did take time but I was prepared for that dedication. Just as I would dedicate my time and focus on a game with length to it beyond a couple hours. And a storyline that would support it.

Back to Amanda Rose...  While a fun and light game, I feel let down by the length of it. Game play went quickly for me and I'm about halfway through in the demo hour. So like many others, I'd get approximately two hours of game play from start to finish. I just don't see myself purchasing Amanda Rose for anything other than BFG's DD one day.

Downloaded for me without any problem--Twice.

When I click play, the screen flashes back to the logo page and asks me if I want to play again.
Game will not open.

First time I have had this happen. *sigh*

Got through 99% of the game, and hit the dreaded Access Violation Error.

Undaunted and standing straight, I closed out the game and restarted it.  It brought me back to Chapter 14, rather than the closing Chapter 15, but no big deal.  Well, I kept getting the dreaded AVE.

Contacted BF Chat line and spoke to a very nice person named, I believe, Alisa.  Well, she was very nice and understood that I didn't want to play through the whole game again, just to get the last chapter finished.

We all know how the games are so confusing as to names.  Well, Alisa was good enough to give me a credit for Amber Rose, the CE.  I immediately told her it wasn't Amber whatever, but it was a $6.99 game called Amanda Rose.

After much toing and froing, and a few giggles, we decided to call it a draw.  I get a credit for the $13.99 game, and promise (kiddding) not to darken her door again.

If this keeps up, I may be able to play every CE game Big Fish puts out for free.  Again, just kidding.

Off to wreak more havoc on Big Fish <g>.
