I've been so out of the loop these past few months.  Since I came back, I've been so busy trying to catch up (and rest) that I haven't really wanted to get "in" to a game.

I've been playing:

DxBall (awesome free brick-breaker game from long ago)
Aveyond - Rhen's Quest (Haven't gotten far, seems to start out pretty slow)

What are your current game-playing passions?

I'm playing BCA - New York for the challenge. Also playing Sleepless Star (FunPass). Love the story line, but I've hit some boards that I'm having a very hard time getting through. And this is in the second chapter!

BTW, have I said how good it is to see you back, Genki? Welcome back! Missed you!

It's been a crazy month for me with little time to sit and relax and play games. I did manage to complete the Samhain CE and Murder on Tantalus Island and several demos but that's pretty much it. What games I haven't delved into, I'll probably do so after the move while I wait for Internet connection at the new place.

It's been a crazy month for me as well.  I am retiring in 2 weeks (thank goodness) so I have been training my replacement all month.  It is wearing me out! Anyway, I have been playing BCA New York for the challenge and finished 3 Days - Amulet....got it at IWin after repeated hidden access errors at BFG.   Good game.

I am still suffering from HOG boredom, so I've focused on games in other genres this month, as well.  I think playing Big City Adventure - New York City three times in a week was overload!

Big City Adventure - NYC (for the contest)
Shop-N-Spree: Family Fortune
Mall-a-palooza
Cinema Tycoon 2: Movie Mania
Dream Day True Love
Flip Words 2
Hell's Kitchen
Lottso! Deluxe
Trivia Golf
Mary Kay Andrews: The Fixer Upper
Maestro: Music of Death Collector's Edition

Just wanted to add my CONGRATULATIONS to Vols on her impending retirement - how exciting!
Also wanted to wish Smallhaven the BEST OF LUCK in the next few weeks as you move and make a new start!  I will be sending you positive thoughts and strength!

I  finished Lost Chronicles:  Salem   a couple days ago.   Horrible, horrible game.  I ended up with 4 or 5 items left in inventory but I was so happy to be done I didn't care much.  I actually finished THREE real stinkers in a row.  They were so bad I seriously considered taking a break from games for awhile (which lasted about 5 minutes!)

My three losers were:   Lost Chronicles: Salem

Secret Legacy:  A Kate Brooks  Adventure (I damn near went blind, plus it was lousy!)

The  Dream Voyagers  (straight hog with tiny objects)

I must have been in a buying frenzy when I purchased these.

I've still been hesitating to get into a new game, so I've been revisiting MKFtP II.  Started a new profile and even managed to beat one of my own records!

My DD has been playing Green Hills Sanitarium, and it's really been making me want to get back into the game - I only ever did the demo!

In between feeling like dog poo today and naps... I finally delved into Stray Souls Dollhouse CE. That clown gives me the freakin' creeps. Hope I don't have a nightmare tonight. Can I come crash at one of your pads so I'm not alone?

I've not been playing much, trying to get back into things, but here's what I've played so far:

Phantom Detective: Ghost Tricks (DS - Adventure/Puzzle)
Pokemon Black (DS - RPG)
Stray Souls Dollhouse (IHOG)

Also, while not quite playing them, in order to ''Catch them all!'' - I've been randomly dipping into the following older pokemon games:

Pokemon LeafGreen (Gameboy Advance/DS - RPG)
Pokemon Emerald (As above)
Pokemon Diamond (As above)
Pokemon Pearl (As above)
Pokemon HeartGold (As above)

While not sure if many on here play Pokemon, if you do - send me a PM so we can trade friend codes and maybe Pokemon, I've never done any online stuff with the game, and quite itching to try it out :-)

I have been playing board games with my other half, mainly Ticket To Ride which we borrowed from a friend, not got it at the moment, but it's so much fun, I really want a copy at some point.

runewarden, what is Phantom Detective like? I've been toying with the thought of buying it.

Ever since yesterday, I've been playing The Sims Medieval - and by the looks of it, I will do so for a loooooooong time.

We found Angry Birds for the PC as a flash game. So I was playing that. Then someone told me you could get a proper version for the PC, so I looked and for only £3.49, I bought it! So I have been playing that.

RE:What Have You Been Playing? (March, 2011)

b00kworm - Ghost Tricks - Phantom Detective is a really amazing game, it's a puzzle/adventure cross, kinda. There's little adventuring there, but I think the spirit would be adventure. It's completely linear, you cannot deviate from the required solutions, but in turn - it's a puzzle game, so the fun is figuring out the solutions.

If you've played any of the Phoenix Wright titles, you'll have an idea of the artwork and the characters - Ghost Tricks is fairly true to that, although the funky characters aren't quite as in depth as Phoenix Wright, but I believe this again goes in fitting with the game, as you are learning who you are - and in turn - who they are, as you proceed in the game.

I've just completed it and the ending is good, but sad in the way that it's completely a one game production with really no opening left for a sequel. I'd have preferred the game to be longer - and more complex puzzles. Since it's only in the latter half that you gain a second set of powers/a helper and then the puzzles get more interesting as you manipulate the room. Half the fun is doing things wrongly, as each change you make, can change the ending of that particular scene.

I had a few niggles about it however. Firstly saving was only per time stamp, so one time stamp could cover multiple scenes and long dialogue parts - and while it allows you to save in the middle of this, if you switch off and come back, it will only come back to the start of it all, which can be depressing. I'd advise keeping the DS on until you reach forced save point, and only then switching off.

The second niggle is simply that the game requires some spot on timing in some areas, and most of the puzzles are time based which means either waiting to do something, or having to do something in a very small window of opportunity. Some levels also have some obvious solutions which will not work at all, despite seemingly having a window where it should work (for instance, opening a floor hatch, which won't open with someone on it, there is a split second where no one is on it but you still cannot open it). There was one second which was done as a prison break, in the dark, with tight timings and wandering sentries. I got very frustrated and my fiance completed that part for me.

However, all in all, I loved the game. But it's best to be aware of the niggles in advance! :-)

Thank you, runewarden, I'm a big fan of the Phoenix Wright games, so this is probably right down my alley. I'll keep my eyes out for this game and pick it up as soon as possible - I need a good reason to use my DS some more.

Thank you Rune for the advice on Ghost Tricks as well.  Capcom had a deal where I could get the first Phoenix Wright for $10 if I bought Ghost Tricks.  I haven't had time to start either one yet and your comment about waiting until a forced save will be helpful.

Kac - I'm a huge Phoenix Wright fan, so I'd probably say play them first. I'd also reckon you may appreciate Ghost Tricks more having played Phoenix Wright, because I saw reviews online where the reviewers were a bit negative about characters etc in Ghost Tricks, but once you've played Phoenix Wright - they make sense, and don't seem to stand out as much.

I've got all of the Phoenix Wright titles, I'm currently re-playing Phoenix Wright 1 again. I've played Apollo Justice twice, as it's my favourite of the series, and I've been disappointed in the Miles Edgeworth prosecutor game. I got into the second story on it, but then lost interest. I'm planning to restart it, but it just didn't have the same grab that the Phoenix Wright ones did. I think perhaps the loss of courtroom tension is a big ''fail'' on the Miles Edgeworth games, since at least for me - much of the fun is the court scenes.

-----

I'm also getting back to playing the Hotel Dusk follow up, Last Window. Which just has a very slow intro, and while I adored Hotel Dusk, certainly I've had a lot of looking back through rose-tinted glasses at it, as the frustrations of knocking on doors, and repetitive actions to find the next course in a very linear game come back to haunt me in Last Window.

----

And whee - installing Baron Wittard at the moment! :D

Dark Parables:  The Exiled Prince CE

Ancient Secrets:  Mystery of the Vanishing Bride

Jewel Match (Totally out of my norm but I needed to zone out)

The Serpent of Isis 2

Shadow Wolf Mysteries SE

Secret Legacy:  A Kate Brooks Adventure

Lost Chronicles:: Salem

The Dream Voyagers

Echoes of Sorrow (played twice because of glitch at end)

Shades of Death:  Royal Blood

Return to Mysterious Island

Again this month I bought more games than I played!
