I've updated the forum skin to a generic winter look. (I should do the next one with summer for our friends on the south side of the equator, LOL.) If anyone has any problems with seeing the fonts, or with the colors, please post what the problem is, and I will fix it.

No problem so far, Khat, and I like the skin. All those nice snowmen up there, the ice cubes, the campfire and so on. Really good choice.

I like the snowmen and everything shows up fine.

It would be nice to have a white background so our smileys and pics we post show up without the white boxes around them.

Otherwise it's great!

The new skin and snowpeople look great, Khat. The blue is very easy for the eye's.

Looks good to me, Khat...and happy to see the font size is bigger, thanks for that! I'm trying to choose my favourite snowperson right now...have you named them?

Well, we could have a name-the-snowpeople contest!

I know it is annoying to have the smileys show up in white boxes, but I tried it with white, and the blue is a lot easier on the eyes.

MOST of the smilies will not be in white boxes. But some will, especially the larger, animated ones. I opted for the easy to look at blue background, but if y'all want a white background, it is easy enough to change!

Khat, if you can manipulate the smileys (meaning: change the graphics), try to give them all a transparent background (that's quite an easy thing to do with a graphics program). That would solve the matter once and for all. Some smiley's in our smiley box have a white background, others haven't.

b00k, I did try to change them, but it was not so easy to change the animated ones, at least not for me. Someone with a better graphics program and knowledge could do it.   We could get new ones that are already transparent, or if a clever graphics person could volunteer to help would be great :)

Unfortunately I don't have a program for animated gifs (which, I guess, is the format of the animated smileys) any longer, but as many here in the forum work with art in one form or another, I hope one of them can help.

I have worked with .gifs a little in Photoshop, and without a workaround, it's nigh impossible to manipulate an already created .gif file.  I just tried a workaround I found on a blog and it didn't work for me.  Opening a .gif file in Photoshop only shows you the first frame.  I can edit the file, but when saving, it will only save that first frame.  The original animation will be lost.  I'd be glad to help with any editing but I'm not sure that I can successfully change an existing .gif file.  If I had the .psd file that was used to create the .gif, then I could edit it; but without that, it'd be pretty hard.

ETA:  I'm sure there is a program that can edit .gifs.  But (that I know of) I don't have one.  :P  Sorry!

ETA2:  Am doing some more research on this so maybe will have more info later . . .

I love the snowpeople, they're so cheery this time of the year.

And the blue background is fine for me, somehow just seems more restful to the eyes.

Good work, Khat.  My favorite snowperson is the one with the flowers in her hair, just makes me lol.

thanks for trying cyndisa.  I guess if it is not bothering anyone we can put up with it and in the meantime look for new ones that are already transparent.

edit: just read your edit cyndisa-  that would be great if you can work it out!

There are programs for editing animated gifs (basically the ones you create them with). They let you edit or at least save each picture separately, so you can take the gif apart, edit all pictures and put them back together. I once had one (an addition to Photoshop, I think), but I have no idea where it's now.

Yes, I can create gifs in Photoshop, no problem, but apparently in the last 2 or 3 versions of the program, they've written out the ability to edit gifs.  It would seem (surprise, surprise) that they created a new program for this that they want consumers to purchase in order to edit already existing gifs - Adobe Fireworks.  If I have the .psd file from which I created the gif, I can edit it and save a new gif; but working with gif files that I don't have the psd files for is more challenging.  Of course, I only have the standard version of Photoshop - not the extended version.

There are several "solutions" I've come across on the web for getting Photoshop to recognize each gif frame as a separate layer in Photoshop but so far nothing has worked on my system and in my program.  However, I'm still researching.  My research was brought to a halt this afternoon due to 3 dogs who needed baths.  :P

Khat--it's beautiful... and the colors are so easy on the eyes.  Plus, it gives that wintry feel--frosty and icy.

Great job, as usual.  I so appreciate all your/admin's hard work to give us not only the best content forum, but also the best visual experience.

Here's what I was able to do with a trial gif editor that I downloaded.

I have 20 free uses during the trial; so if this works for y'all, please, let me know which smilies need to be edited (or I'll try to figure it out myself).  :P  How long it takes me will depend on how many frames the gif file has.  The editing has to be done frame by frame.

THANK YOU CYNDISA.

That looks perfect!

I will send you the others if you like,  there is not that many actually.  Most of them were holiday ones which we probably wont use anymore, at least not this year, so no need to do those now.

Thanks again,  you rock! smiley67

Thanks, gove and b00k, and you're quite welcome!  It's not perfect at all, but I'm glad it works.  smiley111  The OC part of me sees all the little pixels on the edge of the smiley that should be removed, but I figure that at that small size, they won't be too noticeable.  At least, that's the story I'm sticking with!  :P

I found one other that I'm working on now, but I know there are more.  If you'd point them out to me, that'd be great!

Also, I'm guessing that Khat or one of you admins will be able to take the files and incorporate them into the smiley menu?
