Topic :   flags & banners!!

can someone tell me who is responsible for taking all these urdd flags and olympic flame banners down???? it's an eye sore now! they are just hanging everywhere and dangling over our roads, (especially in bont) if this was us placing all these flags and not taking them down im 100% sure we would get fined for littering by the council!

Topic :   Apathy?

We saw a lot of apathy for the Olympic flame and Jubilee last month? With this in mind, will you be watching the Olympics or ignoring it? (because we are entered as British and not Welsh)

Re :   Street Parties

Caernarfon Online:
The council has not received any permit applications for street parties, but that's not to say some might still go ahead.

Topic :   Street Parties

Are there any street parties planned in Caernarfon to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee ?
During her Silver Jubilee there were street parties everywhere and the council gave out prizes to the best decorated street . Nothing much on her Golden Jubilee.

There are a lot of photos on Memorylane re street parties held in town in the past ,VE Day, Festival of Britain, Coronation Day,  Investiture, Silver Jubilee.
Maybe if we hear of one or two planned parties more streets or groups would do the same

Re :   Who will you vote for? Let's name names.

At the moment I feel like confused .com
As there were two polling stations maybe the one in Capel Maes had a greater turn out , I am sure that the candidates concerned will know  the turnout, I only thought ( I am often wrong )  it could have been the cause for the low number of votes for Roy.
Well now that the election is over there will be nothing more to discuss on the forum for a while.

Re :   Who will you vote for? Let's name names.

but you contradict yourself in your own message, not everyone votes and added to that not everyone is elligable to vote. now, without knowing exaclty how many ovters are on the ward, (only the candadates would have the full list supplied to them from Gwynedd). My guess is that 1889 votes equate to about 80%. Asi said earlier, this total is far geater than four years ago when the turn out was 60%. and even if you half it by two as you suggest then we would still have 700 people coming to vote after 5pm. it still does not add up to me as it still means they had to turn up by the coach load if what you say it true. i'm not having a go, I am only stating fact. but interesting that Gwynedd has removed the percentage from their site. Perhaps COL has the numbers?
The point I am making is that 1889 has to at the very least equate to over 60% and if this is the case, having the voting station at the new school has made little difference. All the other town wards were about 50% turn out. If, as you claim Roy's voters stayed away in apathy, then the turn out would have to be much lower than four years ago (60%) this is clearly not the case. I voted Roy and Ken by the way.

Re :   Who will you vote for? Let's name names.

OK  I could vote for 2 candidate, just say I gave 1 to Roy and 1 to Endaf that means 2 votes but only one elector !
My partner came with me and did the same now we have  4 votes  and 2 electors
Joe Bloggs comes along and only gives 1 vote to Endaf now we have 5 votes and 3 electors
I am sure that  everyone didn't  voted for 2  , if they had we would have to add up the number of people who voted and divide by 2.

Re :   Who will you vote for? Let's name names.

To Gwallgo,

Well that can't be right, 500 by 5pm means that around 1,300 came after five!!!!!! How were they arriving, by coachload? Add the number of people up and you can assess for yourself that loads turned up to vote and far more voted this election on seiont than last time. You don't need percentages for this. You only need to add the total number of votes for candadates. As you can clearly see, last election saw the seiont ward receive over 60% and this year numbers were higher. It ain't rocket science!

Re :   Who will you vote for? Let's name names.

To TerryW
Gwynedd council have removed the percentage off the Seiont ward and two others wards who had two seats. I think that they have made a mix up because of the two seats., one of the councillors on the ward said there was a low turn out, and only about 200 had been there up to 5 pm
We will get the figures in due coarse I am sure
As regards the school I have only been there to vote and was not impressed that there was only one voting booth   I was told that Noddfa had three and one for ther disabled.
Like you say lets hope that Tecwyn and Eiriona work for the ward and for Caernarfon too.

Re :   Who will you vote for? Let's name names.

To Gwallgo,

it seems you have not looked into the turn out percentages.

Seiont had an 83% turn out which was the second highest of the Gwynedd elections. Therefore you cannot claim the people did not turn out. Only 17% didn't bother. The average turn out was under 45% which means Seiont had nearly twice as many people turning out than other wards. No one can therefore say the location was in the wrong place. Let's put that out of the question right now! I am therefore a little surprised myself that Roy didn't come first this time after all the hard work in getting the new Hendre school sorted. Perhaps the general public or rather the people of Hendre don't like the new school? Has anyone considered this? We are all going on about how good this school is, but having visited the building, I find it badly planned, full of corridors and loads of wasted space. They have not even made provisions for a canteen and use the gym as the dining area. And they claim the school to be state of the art? I am also convinced that the council buckled under the pressure and relented in postponing the safe path to school. I think Roy should have stuck to his guns and made sure the children were safe. This (IMO) is why he lost so many votes. Perhaps now the election is over we can see it being built as planned before an accident occurs.

whatevery the reason, we can;t balme it on a poor turn out, lets hope Tecwyn Thomas and Eiriona now work for the ward and not sit back and do nothing like the rest of them.

Re :   Who will you vote for? Let's name names.

The election over !! Are we happy ?
I was surprised to see Endaf Cooke having so many votes, could be due to Llanbeblig path/opening saga, I hope that he turns up for more meeting as his past record is not very good.  He has five years now to prove himself.
I  am happy that Roy Owen got back in but dissappointed on the number of votes he got ,could be a number of factors here, yet again the Llanbeblig path/opening saga, the location of the polling station, the new Hendre school was a bit too far for some, but I would like to think that the people who did not turn out to vote were confident that Roy would keep his seat. A wake up call for them.
Nice to see Eirona Rees Hughes being voted in on the town council,  maybe it would have been better for Ken Jones and Karen Williams on the Peblig ward if they had tried the town council too.
Shame that Richard Morris Jones Independent was trying against Ioan Thomas  Plaid Cymru on the Menai ward and lost, both very good workers.
Good on Huw Edwards on Cadnant and Tudor Owen on Peblig keeping their seats.
Seeing so many town councillors having walked into their seats and not been elected show in my mind the lack of interest  we Caernarfon people have in local politics.
No use anyone complaing now, we all had our chance yesterday lets hope we are in safe hands
We have a few new faces and the good old ones
Congratulations to all the councillors be it Gwynedd council or Town council for being elected and the best of luck.
I for one am happy with the way I voted and the results, and in all honesty I am not the Ken Jones that was trying in the election.

Re :   Who will you vote for? Let's name names.

Why could the people of the Seiont ward not use the community hall in Llys yr Eifl to vote. Some of my friends, family and neighbours have said that they will not bother, saying that the polling station is to far, nothing to do with the school, or the fact it is on the Peblig ward but the distant . I gather that postal votes are up this time Maybe we will have a low turnout .I for one will be going, I only hope that I make the right choice of councillors.
There is only one thing I can say to the people of Caernarfon GO AND VOTE .

Re :   Gwynedd council

Not much we can by all accounts. It looks like the people in power will once again remain in power but this time with a bigger majority. Gwynedd is too Welsh Nationalist for its own good and this will be the death of places like Caernarfon. We need to take a leaf out of other tourist towns around the world and cater for everyone and in the process not forget our locals. I read your message with interest and despite realising it was all hypothetical, what we all have to realise that it really could be true and this is the scenario we have to live with. Brilliant posting which shows everyone our inadequacies.
