Roger was a Waka Do himself, but a sho nuff talented one!
What a writer he was, and what a sense of humor. Of course
he had a serious side as well, a very serious side. One of the
great ones, no doubt!!

I saw his son on one of the reunion shows, and Bill asked
him if his Dad and himself were much alike in the humor
department. He said they were, but his dad didn't seem
to know how to turn it off, and he did.  Well I got news for
Roger JR. His dad knew very well how to turn it off. Other
wise he would have never gotten as much work done as he
did. As for sonny boy, I don't believe he ever knew how to
turn it on in the first place. He sure didn't seem like it to me....

I didn't get that impression about his son.
Yes, his son is more reserved or was more reserved in the environment he was in at the time, but I remember seeing him years ago on the Crooke and Chase show where he was more relaxed

That was the only time I recall seeing him, and he
just seemed like a dud to me compared to Roger.

An early Roger Miller record with Paycheck singing harmony with him   (Donny Young) on one of his first recordings  about this time he sang with Paycheck on one of his first records "On This Mountain Top"

Recorded for Decca in late 1958 with Donny Young (Johnny Paycheck) on harmony vocals. A hard Honky tonk sound at a time

Early Paycheck had a lot of Faron Young in his style.
He was told that had to change because we already
had a Faron Young. He finally found his own style,
and man did it work well for him!!

Paycheck brought his friend Darrell McCall to Nashville and tried to pass him off as his brother and sing as the Young brothers, They were let known that there was enough Brother's already singing in Nashville. When Paycheck would get fired usually Darrell would take his place for a while

Darrell began in the music business when he was fifteen and had a Saturday morning country deejay show on WSRW in Hillsboro, Ohio. He also played local dances as a musician. Darrell then moved to Nashville with a boyhood buddy, Johnny Paycheck, in 1958. They worked briefly as a duo, the Young Brothers, but Darrell ended up as a harmony singer, sitting in on sessions for George Jones, Faron Young, and Ray Price. He also went on the road as a member of Price’s Cherokee Cowboys, and later with Faron Young, and Hank Williams Jr. Darrell’s ability to play the bass and sing somewhat high harmonies was a rather rare combination of talent abilities.

I kinda liked Roger. Not bad for a Texas boy. I did buy "Doo Wacka Doo" when it came out on a 45.

I still like alot those 50's songs from back when I was in high school. This one was poplar, I don't remember why though?

Ha Ha, Cracker. I thought top 40 radio was
going to play "Greed Door" to death.
Everywhere you went people were singing it,
Every jukebox was wearing the records out.
Of course the song didn't make a lick of sense,
but it sure made some people lots of bucks!
