Hi all,

Since BBC closed I have been looking all over for you guys. Finally read in 'DisabilityNow' this website address.

Thanks devine63 (U14166755) for your information, but at the moment I cannot for the life of me find an advocacy service that can help me challenge the Social Services decision not to arrange a Wetroom.

 I hoped some people would spot the mention in Disability Now (seems only fair to mention them again, when they mentioned us.). Hope you will stay around and sorry I can't offer any positive comments on the advocacy... but I bet someone will know something.

or some others:

If your local Citizens Advice Bureau is under pressure, for benefits advice you can try:
- your local Centre for Independent Living  (http://www.ncil.org.uk/ )
or
- your local disability advice centre / disabled people's organisations  - the best ones are run by disabled people for disabled people - see local phone book or ask at local library - they usually have info / posters etc
or
- your local council may have a Welfare rights advisor (titles may be different in some areas)

or
- you can try your local Law Centre   (http://www.lawcentres.org.uk/ )

Where I live (Glasgow) the advocacy services support mental health clients only. So, on the basis I was depressed alongside a physical disability we fought for one. I am sad to say the results were very poor (you get unlucky sometimes; this was a really bad advocate), but thats not to say its everyone's experience.

I'm taking it, you have emailed MP, etc? Or, are you having difficulty with any level of fighting for this (which is totally understandable, fighting social work is soul destroying).

 I just got a call from the Disability Law Service, they advised me to call CLS who can help with the physical aspect of complaining. They also said to contact the Local Government Ombudsman and 'start the ball rolling with the complaint'.
So my next call is to the CLS & LGO.

glad to hear someone could help

I am fairly sure that before you can go to the local govt ombudsman you have to have formally complained through the Social Services procedures and appealed and received their letter saying that you have reached the end of their complaints process.  So if you have not already done so, do make that formal complaint and phrase your complaint in terms of the Human Rights Act and Equality ACt  (for tips see it www.bihr.org.uk site and their guide for disabled people)

 fairysparkle  did you get your wetroom???  

Im waiting on word for funding for a wetroom at the minute.  Im near Glasgow is it a waste of time applying.  

 Someone told me about the Glasgow centre for independant living, havnt looked into them yet as Ive been too stressed out with trying to get to see the OT about the wetroom and outside lift.

I saw a hand-basin on a stem that you can pull out and push back to the wall.  It was great - but I need one about half the size to fit into my tiny loo as there is not space for a standard small basin in the room.
