Hi all

I feel like I should know the answer to this, but as I don't I will ask you knowledgeable, experienced lot.

My significant other and I (both wheelies) are about to buy a new house together in a new local authority area, after moving from our own places. short question with possibly a long answer, are we allowed to take the mattress and electric bath seat, that were both originally given to me but are perfectly suitable for my girlfriend as well, with us to the new place or would they want them back? I got both pieces of equipment through the NHS. My concern that they would want them back is stopping me from asking the organisation I got them from.

We both work full time earning an ok wage so we would not expect to get any financial help from the local authority and we come nowhere near the dfg criteria.

Hi JB
13 years ago, I was moved from one LA to another LA [170 miles] to be near family for care.
NHS equipment in close personal contact was allowed to be taken with me. As it could not be used by another patient, and it saves another LA providing such equipment.
Therefore, I would advise that you request your local LA, for permission to take the items you mention with you. To save the new LA, the expense of issuing replacement items.
Good Luck.

most things they cant reuse.  even items that where very lightly used for hygeine issues.

think the problem comes when electric items have a service policy.  they need to be transfered over to the other area. It will depend on if them and how cost effective this is in their view.  They new area may want to re assses you even if you are happy with your stuff.  as it may be cheaper to renew than insure/service old stuff.

If non of the items get serviced I would plead ignorance and move them as I doubt they will look for them once you move and your file is archived.  Only reason they would have to look if the council rented the equipment from a 3rd party or an ongoing service package. ie my stairlift has a service package - my neighbours hoist and stairlift is rented as they are awaiting residential care.
