Took me a bit to work out, but you have to select the picture, then press the 'upload' button to the right of the picture select box.  It took a while on my computer, but after a bit it came up with a message box to confirm that the image was uploaded, and then you can insert it

Immense,

If you follow Kim's instructions it should work. Aimoo should have make the upload button more interactive looking because as it is the way of getting pictures insert is not easily seen without help.

Thank you Kim.

That's ok :) Thankfully I have used a forum similar to this one before, so I have a reasonable idea about how to get around!

(I really like the quick reply option! Haven't seen that before!)

Okay here we go I am going to post a screen shot per message.

It is important to write any text you want above the picture before you try to insert the picture.

RE:how do i put a picture in?
(Date Posted:12/06/2011 10:02 AM)

Okay so we are as far as the picture being in the reply screen.

When I do this my pictures look over size because they are large files. However once I post the reply Aimoo reduces the size. It might be easier for other people to make sure the size of their pictures are small enough to go in the reply box straightway. Maybe I am lazy ;-)

edit because I was wrong and there was a problem with the image sizes being posted.
'I think the best way to determine what size is acceptable is to say that if you get scroll bars appearing after you inserted the image into the reply box then you need to delete that image from the Reply box, resize a copy of the image using the appropriate software on your computer eg I use Microsoft Office Picture manager, or the software that came with my digital camera. Once you have a resized copy of the image try again and as long as no scroll bars appear then it is ok to post your reply.

If when you insert your image scrolling bars appear like in the sreen shot you need to start over with a smaller image size.
Also please note that if you have a lot of text above your picture you will get a height scrolling bar to the right of the reply box, I expect people to apply commone sense to the instruction I am giving :-)

Hopefully the screenshots help.
When I click the browse option it takes me to the directory of all my folders and files, I used the Public folders because I am sure no one wants to see my Documents directory.
If you are new to computers or have not used files and picture software etc you will probably need someone who can show you on your actual computer. Don't worry or feel thick after all I have been using computers for online message boards on and off since 2000.
Cheers

Everyone,
ps, Please do not post any pictures that you are not happy for the whole world to see and comment on. Also there will be no feeling hurt if people do not comment on any pics you may post- such is life eg my Facebook profile has allsorts of stuff on it that people walk on by :-).

Whoo hoo lovely picture in message 15 :-)
It did take a while to load and shrink to the right size though.Probably because I was viewing it just as it had been posted.

Great opportunity to say please fill in the "image description" box as it will appear as text for screenreaders and for those who have images turned off. It doesn't need to be an essay but "Picture of my dog" is useful information.

Does anyone know how to put in a picture from another online source, as in show the picture rather than click a link to the picture? I've tried all sorts of ways and I can't make it work. I have a lot of pictures in albums elsewhere that I'd like to bring on board here but I'd have to download them to my computer to upload them back here - surely there is a better way?

I also uploaded some stuff to "My images" but don't know if I can put them into posts and also if others can see them - if you click my profile can you see the stuff in "My images"?

Okay first of all the issue of image size has come up and when I clikced to this thread I can see the problem does not resolve itslef.

I am going to go in and reduce the size of my dog picture and also the waterfall picture posted by Immense.

Then I need to do a screen shot.

Okay that all those screen shot above have been resized.

Rose,

Next to the You Tube option in the toolbar there is an icon to use Photobucket.

There is the option to type in the image url above the image description but I never use when there is the option to get the picture from my computer.

If you are going to use images you added into your Aimoo photo album, you click on My images.- see the screen shot I circled the bit you want in red.

Re:how do i put a picture in?

Everyone,

Rose reminded me that it is better if we can put written descriptions of our pictures with our pictures. I won't make this a rule but I ask people to try to do it as a matter of showing consideration for the visually impaired. If people forget to do it members who need the description can ask people to add a description and I have an expectation people will be happy to help.

If you look in the screen shot I last gave there is an option to write in Image Description however this does not show up when you are posting pictures using the upload from your own computer method. In message 14 I just wrote in the description in the ordinary way you do when typing into a reply box.

I hope this has helped people better understand how to post images and the limits which have been set.
If people post overly large images they can be subject to editing by management and they will be reminded of the rules.:-)

You can use an UBB Code IMG directive. Unfortunately, UBB Code doesn't provide for image descriptions, so you'll need to type a description manually in your post.

Here's an example image (the Aimoo logo):

This is the code you need to type for it:

(shown as an image so that the forum software can't process it)

More UBB code examples on the Firing Range :)

The full-function post editor probably has a way of doing this, too, but I can barely use it, so someone else will need to investigate that idea.

Actually, looking at SunshineMeadows' screenshot in post #23, the "Image URL", "Image description" and "Title" boxes may well be what you want.

Darth,
Thank you for the info .

I am trying to lead from the fron on this and just remember to type a description in when I post a image. I may need a reminder from time to time.:-)

Re:how do i put a picture in?

I'll probably need reminders myself, which is ironic, because I'm registered blind!

I can still see images, as long as I'm using a properly adapted computer, so I have a nasty tendency to forget the descriptions. I'm basically running into a classical effect of unexpected disability - the habits of a non-disabled person are astonishingly hard to stamp out. Having had perfect eyesight as a teenager, I'm still catching up.

In contrast, I rarely fail to account for hearing loss, because I was born hard of hearing, and I'm deaf now. I've never had perfect hearing to learn bad habits with.

The problem I usually have is when a web page is poorly coded (most of them are), so that the images drop out or the page misrenders under my particular accessibility configuration. The descriptions become much more important to me then :)

The standard of the computer a person has and their internet connection affects how well and quickly web pages load. I have a very fast broadband connection and pretty good computer, so I think there will be occasions when I dont notice a oversized picture has been posted and is causing an issue. If there is a problem please post the thread name and number of the post into a message on the House Keeping thread in the Ouch talk catergory.
Thank you.
