I'm curious.
I am getting people wanting to be my 'friend'.  Now I am highly flattered, I really am.  But I do not understand.

If people want to talk to me they can, here in public.  If they wish to way something in private, they can; just send me a pm.

Some people I have become friendly with because I have known them for years over on the other site and there are things that we can say to each other now in private, nothing to do with anything being talked about on here.

So, would someone explain to me, what being 'friends' is useful for.

Thank you.

It can be an ego thing, but it can also be that people just add friends because there is an option to add them and it can be nice to see friends avatars on their profile.

When first used Aimoo a few years ago I arrived a while after a few online friends did and it made me feel more at home to add them to my profile.

When I decided to create Ouch Too I used a different account. At first I was getting used to using the name Sunshine Meadows (it is still me but a bit more anonymous) and did not know people from BBC Ouch well enough to send friends requests. If people request an add I add them otherwise I guess I am still a bit shy.:-)

Nah, I do not believe you sunshine.
You are chatting away to us all, answering questions and easing us all into this new area with great confidence and panache.

(Mind you, we all have a public persona and another one that we keep hidden from everyone.)

smiley56 Thank you. When I was in IT support I always loved it when a customer let me help them, helped me help them by answering and asking questions. There is nothing else so good as reaching achievements together. Without you and everyone else who come to Ouch Too and well taken a chance on an unknown, Ouch Too would be but dust on a cyberhighway.
Being disabled and sick tethers me, especially when I meet new people face to face, but once I know people the side people see here comes out and I am the real me. Come to think of it I am less shy when I am working too, maybe having a task to do helps me to be less self conscious.

Yes I think you are right about public and private personas.
