Okay a not particularly computer savvy member here so please be gentle.

I have just tried to link on another thread to a Newspaper but it has not appeared as a 'clickable' link as it would on the other Ouch messageboard or forums I use, What am I doing wrong ??

Please make any instructions simple for me to follow  :(

Edited to add being driven mad by reading on the PC so forums are marked as read, go and log on himselves laptop later on and that then shows the  things I have read as unread.....seems I am more hopeless than I realised with Computers. Time for a coffeee i think !!

Hi Misty,

Ouch Too interface does not work in the same way as BBC Ouch that would make a link clickable when youuu wrote it as text.
I will do some screen shots and a how to now.

Smilies are only avaliable in in the Reply box that contains the toolbar.

You can still use the old fashion way of :-) :-( :-D and also I still include things like ~smile~ ~hugs~ or lol lmao etc in message I post using the quick reply option.

Does anyone know what are the + and - signs against the thread titles?

Oh and how do you link an answer to another post ?  so it makes sense if another post precedes your answer.

They show weather or not a reply has been posted yet, + means that there are replies, - means no replies yet

Please bear in mind that when you add the link to the little box you need to make sure you do not end up with the http twice eg httphttp.ouchtoo.org

Also if you are wanting to just copy and paste a link in without doing the twiddling bits in the tutorial it makes a difference if you are using the Quick Reply box at the end of a link or the Advance Reply option that loads when you click the Reply button. It looks like if you use the second option then the editor automatically creates a clickable link whereas the Quick Reply just keeps it as plain text.

Links do sometimes just break when you post them and this can be because of how the website you are linking to works and is unavoidable.

Personally I only use the Quick reply box when just making a simple text only reply, otherwise I use the Reply Editor.

I also find that when posting links it is most reliable to click the actual link source and then copy and paste the address from the browser. This ensures you have gone the correct page and the link works, at least once!

There is a text based way of inserting links via the Quick Reply box, using an UBB Code directive. Here's an example link:

http://www.aimoo.com/

and this is the code you type to get it:

(shown as an image so that the forum software can't process it)

If you want to get a named link, like this one:

Aimoo Home Page

then you can do it this way:

(again, shown as an image so that the forum software can't process it)

More UBB code examples on the Firing Range :)

How do I upload a You-Tube video using the You-Tube icon above the 'reply' box?  I tried pasting in the URL and that didn't do anything - there was no button to 'submit' on the 'insert' box that came up, so I'm mystified....

Kizzy,

There are two ways of inserting a You Tube video, the first is using the embedding tool but this can be tempermental and the second is by as you have already done clicking the You Tube icon.

Assuming you have a page open on You Tube you will be able to see the title of the video eg The Mean Kitty Song, so you need to copy then past the title into the blank strip before the keyword option. Next click Search and the video you want to add is usually the one shown on the top left hand side. Left click on the image of the video you want and it will be added to you message. If you use the Preview button you will find that it often does not show the video is there so the way to go is post the message and then go back and edit if you need to.

This is the method I have been using if anyone else has another way please post it- thank you.
