Auntie - I'm hoping Luca doesn't start dribbling on me anytime soon!
Yvette - I think the photo angle may have made him look bigger, but I think he is fairly big for a kitten. He's about 4 months now, and looks very much like a mini cat, rather than a baby, if that makes sense! One of my friends has a kitten that's older than him, but she looks younger. Luca's feet and ears seem quite big, not sure if that means he's going to grow into being a big cat? He also likes to have a little nap on me while I'm at the computer, when he's not chasing the on-screen pointer, that is!

As posted previously, we have corn snakes. They have been housed together to see how they got on and it worked well, though they have to be fed separately as the larger female (Oscar, previous owner told us it was male) attacks the smaller male at this time. The male is Harri, had him since he was a hatchling and Harri is a gender-neutral name, as it could have been Harriet.
Pedigree are having an Adoption Drive to raise money for homeless doggies. You can raise £1 by clicking on 4 links to take Ripley the dog for a virtual walk. I've raised about £7 so far.

Im having real problems with Hartley stealing food from Topov. Im trying to feed Topov as he's not well and i dont know how much he's been eating over the last couple of days. Ive resorted to getting their travel box out so that i can get Topov into it so he can eat in peace. Its because Hartley is not the centre of attention at the moment and he doesnt like it. He is also the dommiant rat out of the pair. (Message edited by Leg_Iron On 24/10/2011 4:37 PM)

Thank you Noisyworld! Isn't it fun?! Ripley licks the screen sometimes and just 'smiles' at others, I noticed.
Leg Iron: Poor Topov, as I said, we have to feed the snakes separately because the female, who is bigger, has a go at the male. I've never had rats, but apart from fighting gerbils, none of the rodents we've had ever gave us much bother. Your lads are very lucky to have you.
I was very interested in the ethics of breeding your own mice as snake food. Yes, they would have a better life than those bred commercially but having raised gerbils, I think I would find it difficult. Once, with our first snake, who was a lovely gentle yellow rat snake (sorry, LI) the pet shop had run out of mice, so they gave us gerbils. We had them as pets at the time as well. It was a bit odd, to say the least. Yellow rat snakes are supposed to be bad tempered but ours hadn't read the manual, he was really even - tempered. Massive too, he grew to well over 7ft.

Couldn't find Luca the kitten just now. Knew he must be asleep somewhere in the house, but I couldn't find him. Eventually I found him tucked up asleep *in* my bed, right under the duvet. Cheeky so and so...

I couldn't find the parents' dog the other night and assumed he was stuffing his face or waiting to go outside. He was (twice!) laid curled up on mum's computer chair.

Topov seems to be better in himself but he is still making a weird churping sound. Im going to take him to the vets on monday as i think he needs some additional antibiotics. The symptoms sound like he has got Mycoplasmosis, its a bacterial infection that rats are prone to. They carry the bacterium in their body.

I got annoyed at the fireworks last night, Luka just went in the garden and barked, but I had to allow Megs upstairs into the attic. When I came up to check on her she had made fortifications using the cushions on the settee.

We had fireworks around here last night too. Harvey always takes himself off to hide in the bathroom whenever there are fireworks, after having barked loudly at them. He eventually emerges about 20 minutes after they have finished. Barney on the other hand, was a complete wreck. As he has only been with us for 3 weeks, we had no idea how he would react. He shook like a leaf and huddled at our feet. We covered him with a blanket and he calmed down a little. When the fireworks were over, it took a good hour for him to stop shaking. He's got to go to the vets on Monday, so I'm going to ask if there is anything they can give him to take some of the anxiety away. I guess we're in for a couple of weeks of whizz bangs.

Oh gosh yes. They started round here last night too. Poor pets were very put out, and so was I on their behalf. Then tonight there was a sudden huge bang - it made me scream out loud as it was completely out of the blue. Doggie came running in for a bit of comfort. She is now sleeping on the floor next to me as it has gone quiet. What do these people get out of having it when noone else is prepared. A for trick or treat - thank goodness only a few people have ever tried it on me. I just tell them that I do not believe in it and that it is an American idea and not something we do in this country. They go away, a little crestfallen I admit. But it really is not one of the UK traditions. And quite frankly around here who knows who will be opening the door or who will be standing on your path. I've had harassment from one neighbour for ten years and if he was standing there I would rush to get the kitchen knife!! I think I am probably a rotten spoil-sport. Bah Humbug!

I've just been to the vets and they have given me some Zylkene for Barney to get him through the firework season. It's supposed to be calming so I'll give it a go. Harvey has had the stitches out of his ear this evening and it's healing well. He still needs his ear drops for another few days and then the infection should be cleared up. Barney also has an ear infection, so now we have to give him some drops too! Barney has lost another half a kilo in weight, which means he's lost 3kg so far. I'm really pleased. He's getting much fitter and is looking much trimmer. He probably needs to lose another 4kg to get down to an ideal weight. I wish I could lose weight as easily! How's Topov doing Legiron? I hope he's eating better now.

Hi Ditchdweller. Topov is eating and drinking well now. I did take him to the vet today for a check up as he'd been on the antibiotic for a week and i felt he was still chesty. When the vet checked him out he said his chest was clear when he listened to it with the stethascope. He did suggest keeping him on the baytril (antibiotic). There was another drug that i could use but it was £24.00 a bottle and i would be using such a small amout per day which i would have to add it to the drinking water. The problem with that is that Hartley would be drinking it too. He did say that if he was in my shoes hed keep with the baytril.
What was nice was that they didnt charge me for seeing the vet just the £6.60 for the baytril. I was nicely suprised! Also the vet nurse who was helping the vet didnt like rats!!

My vet was nice to me too when I took doggie for her annual proddings and pokings. He did not charge me for the de-worming tablets. Is this equivalent to the grocer not charging someone on here for some apples? That was a story from some time ago and I think there was a thread on it too.

Ive just noticed that Hartley is starting to show signs of being wheezy. I will keep an eye on him overnight and if he is still the same tomorrow then i will start him on some baytril (Antibiotics) hidden in custard.

Just popping in to touch base as it were. Pereg had terrible cluster Grand Mal seizures from early morning 8 October - four major Grand Mals in under 36 hours, with three or so hours of bad post-ictal activity following each one. It took her about four days to recover from all that and it was exhausting for her and almost wiped me out.
Her Pb has been increased to 50mg TID which means even less sleep for me as she has her meds at 7am, 3pm and 11pm - and other supplements and stuff in between times - and sleeping on my bed it means that everytime she moves it disturbs me in case she might be starting another seizure.
On Tuesday she went for blood and other tests. Some tests were done at the surgery, others the blood had to be sent to an outside major laboratory as the surgery only has a small basic lab.
How is she? Yesterday she was fine - so far today she is fine - how she will be in five minutes time who knows.
The only certainty about canine epilepsy is its uncertainty.
Life is really not much fun at the moment.
